Creating a safe community where youth in foster care thrive and form lasting connections.

About us

Creating a safe community where youth in foster care thrive and form lasting connections. Founded in 1998, Peace4Kids is a private, 501(c)(3) non‐ profit organization that provides programs and services for youth in foster care from ages 4-24. Peace4Kids is on the front lines in addressing the needs of youth in the South Los Angeles neighborhoods of Watts, Willowbrook and Compton. Hailed by the L.A. Department of Children and Family Services as a creative intervention that supports permanency and solid foster care placements, Peace4Kids is unique in that it organically creates a sense of community among the youth who participate, dozens of committed adults who volunteer, and community leaders who engage in our programs.

Adulting is not easy. Especially when you are transitioning from foster care into a life you might feel ill-prepared for. At some point, we must learn to be masters of our destiny and not victims of our circumstances. In becoming personally responsible for creating the life we want, we learn that asking for help is an important skill for our path to success. Whether it's affordable housing, a job connection, or a school reference, Peace4Kids recognizes the significant role that relationships play in one's ability to access the resources necessary for realizing our dreams. In 2018, with the generous support of our Heroes Circle (individuals dedicated to monthly donations), we introduced our L.E.A.D. program to extend our assistance to young adults aged 18 to 25. During this period, we discovered that these years are pivotal for youth in our community, as having an accessible and safe space amidst numerous closed doors provides a sanctuary where individuals feel a sense of belonging. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is a library of wisdom. At Peace4Kids the hero's journey helps us capture the power of the foster care journey for all to see. Story after story highlights the strengths and resilience of our youth as they share the insights they've discovered along their journey. From the Storyboard Project to our award winning immersive videos with USC journalism students, our stories matter! And... we're just getting started. 360° VR Videos: https://lnkd.in/gyqwrbZf
